What is "AI Search Volume"?
AI Search Volume is AccuRanker’s enhanced keyword search volume metric that intelligently combines data from Google Search Console, Google Keyword Planner, and Google Trends to provide accurate search volume estimates.
Our 'traditional' Search Volume metric and the Search Volume found in other SEO tools typically rely solely on Google Keyword Planner data. However, this data has several drawbacks, including keyword grouping that leads to overestimates, lack of device-specific data, and unrealistic fluctuations in Search Volume. With AI Search Volume, we address these issues and deliver much more reliable Search Volume estimates, allowing you to make better decisions about your SEO and SEM strategies. How does AccuRanker calculate AI Search Volume?
AccuRanker’s AI Search Volume is a powerful new feature that provides more accurate keyword Search Volume estimates by combining data from Google Search Console, Google Keyword Planner, and Google Trends. Our algorithm intelligently handles common issues such as keyword grouping, overestimation, and device-specific search behavior to ensure you receive the most reliable numbers.
We use anonymized Google Search Console data to adjust Search Volume based on real-world impressions, Google Keyword Planner to provide baseline estimates, and Google Trends to detect shifts in search behavior. Each source has its own shortcomings, for instance different ways of grouping queries/keywords. AccuRanker's algorithm handles this and cross-references these sources to deliver precise and actionable keyword Search Volume data.
Is AI Search Volume localized?
Yes, AI Search Volume will show the Search Volume for the chosen location. There will for instance be a difference between locations like New York and Los Angeles.
When is AI Search Volume updated
When you add a new keyword, we will calculate your AI Search Volume within 10 minutes, and typically much faster. After that (and for existing keywords), the AI Search Volume is updated around the 15th of each month. This means, when looking at the graph for AI Search Volume history, you will get the number for August around the 15th of September. The reason it is not already ready the September 1st is because we have to wait for our various data sources to provide their estimates. For example, Google Keyword Planner data is typically not available until around the 12th of the month.
As opposed to "regular" Search Volume where the numbers we report in the keyword list is based on the 12 month average Search Volume, the AI Search Volume numbers in the keyword list represents our latest calculated estimate, typically calculated around the 15th of the month.
Why is Google Keyword Planner not enough for search volume?
Google Keyword Planner tends to overestimate search volumes because it groups similar keywords together and rounds numbers into broad categories, resulting in inflated estimates. This also makes it impossible to differentiate search volume across devices (mobile vs. desktop). For example, if you search for variations of the keyword "shoes for men" (e.g. "shoe for men" or "shoes for mens") Google Keyword Planner will assign the same search volume to all similar keywords, regardless of their actual search traffic.
AccuRanker’s AI Search Volume avoids these pitfalls by providing keyword-specific estimates, including split data for mobile and desktop searches.
How does AI Search Volume compare to Google Search Console data?
Google Search Console impressions can be valuable but they are limited in several ways. You only receive impression data if you already rank for a keyword, and the reported numbers can fluctuate based on ranking position. In addition, impressions can be affected by bot traffic, and Google Search Console does not provide data at a granular, location-based level.
AccuRanker’s AI Search Volume overcomes these limitations by leveraging massive amounts of anonymized GSC data for better estimates without requiring you to rank for every keyword. We filter out inconsistencies and adjust for local intent, providing more stable and realistic keyword traffic data.
Why is AI Search Volume smaller than regular Search Volume?
AI Search Volume is typically smaller because it provides more accurate estimates by avoiding the keyword grouping that inflates numbers in tools like Google Keyword Planner. Regular Search Volume combines mobile and desktop data, while AI Search Volume separates them for greater accuracy. This ensures a realistic view of traffic potential for each keyword, rather than the inflated combined numbers seen in traditional tools.
Where can I find historical AI Search Volume data?
To track keyword search trends over time, AccuRanker offers historical AI Search Volume data. Simply click on the AI Search Volume number in the keyword list to access historical records for individual keywords. This feature allows you to observe fluctuations in search behavior, helping you to plan more accurate seasonal campaigns. Here, you can also see the split between the different devices. If you want to see aggregated metrics, you can find the AI Search Trend chart on the dashboard page. This chart shows you the development in AI Search Volume over time for all keywords in your filtering. As with almost all other charts in AccuRanker, the data will adjust if you apply a filter to drill down to a certain keyword segment. You can also add total AI Search Volume as a KPI box on the dashboard page.My AI Search Volume history numbers have changed, why is that?
AI Search Volume data is regularly updated around the 15th of each month, and any new information may improve estimates, which could result in changes to historical data. These updates ensure that you always have the most accurate, up-to-date numbers available.
Can I use AI Search Volume for Share of Voice?
Not yet, but we plan on integrating AI Search Volume with our AI Share of Voice feature to provide reliable traffic estimates.
How can I improve the AI Search Volume estimates for my keywords?
By connecting your Google Search Console to AccuRanker, we can use your impression data to further improve the accuracy of your AI Search Volume estimates. Connecting with Search Console allows us to provide more precise numbers for your specific keywords, as well as historical insights. We do not share your Search Console data with any third parties, but use it to improve our AI Search Volume algorithm.
Do you share my Search Console data in any way?
No. We do not share your data with any third parties. We also do not display your Search Console numbers anywhere in the application for anyone other than your own account. In addition, we anonymize all Search Console data used for AI Search Volume, by removing domain and URL information in our database. If you connect with Search Console, we will however use the data to improve our AI Search Volume numbers across our entire keyword database. In addition, connecting to Search Console allows you to easily import keywords from Search Console into AccuRanker. In the future, AccuRanker will also provide additional integration features with Search Console designed for keyword research.
What brings the AI in AI Search Volume?
In truth, AI Search Volume is not AI in the traditional sense of machine learning. It got its name because we want it to match with AI Share of Voice and related metrics, as those features will have a lot of interplay in the future. AI Search Volume is more about intelligently combining different data sources and dealing with the weaknesses and edge cases of each source, than it is about machine learning. You can think of it as AccuRanker Intelligence.
